Southcliffe:
Sean Harris awarded Television BAFTA

Sean Harris received the award for Best Leading Actor at last nights award ceremony for his lead role in Warp Films' Southcliffe. The BAFTA Television awards were held at London's Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, May 18 2014.

The series, directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and written by Tony Grisoni (Red Riding trilogy), also stars, a wealth of British talent from stage and screen, including Rory Kinnear (Black Mirror), Eddie Marsan (Tyrannosaur) and Shirley Henderson (Anna Karenina).

Sean was nominated for the award alongside Dominic West (Burton And Taylor), Luke Newberry (In The Flesh) and Jamie Dornan (The Fall). Southcliffe was also nominated in three other categories; Best Mini-Series, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Series Synopsis

Southcliffe tells the story of a fictional English market town devastated by a spate of shootings which take place over a single day; a tragedy that has ripped apart the community. The drama explores tragedy, grief, responsibility and redemption seen through the eyes of a journalist (Kinnear) returning to the small town of his childhood, and those closest to the victims of the tragedy. Violence and sudden bereavement confronts the residents of Southcliffe with emotions they are unequipped to understand or deal with; testing their resilience as individuals and as a community.

Reviews for Southcliffe

The Telegraph

Southcliffe was anything but nice-cup-of-tea and a sit-down TV, but it was a mesmerising tragedy, nonetheless.

★★★★

Metro

What kept me watching were the note-perfect performances, with the under-rated Sean Harris... superb as twitchy loner Stephen, aka The Commander, and Rory Kinnear deliciously repellent as ambitious and cynical newshound David, wrapping his lips around the line ‘thank you, you beautiful immigrant woman, with your real tears and your real pain’ as he celebrated a scoop.

The Guardian

That's the power of Southcliffe – it is fictional drama that feels so very real. Frighteningly good, literally.

Radio Times

...One of the bravest and most important dramas in the channel's history.
