Tom Turgoose, the star of the film, also picks up best new comer

We are extremely proud that "This Is England", the new Warp Films production directed by Shane Meadows (Dead Man's Shoes, A Room For Romeo Brass) has won BEST FILM at the prestigious British Independent Film Awards.

Thomas Turgoose, who plays Shaun in the film and was just 12 years old at the start of shooting, also won MOST PROMISING NEWCOMER at the event.

This Is England beat The Wind That Shakes The Barley (winner of the Palm d'Or at Cannes) and The Queen to the prize, which has become one of the most important awards in the British Film Industry calendar. It is added to the Special Jury Prize won at the Cinema Festa Internazionale di Roma (Rome International Film Festival) last month.
