Faster Than Sound: Brainwaves
(Mira Calix and Anna Meredith with members of the Aurora Orchestra)
Brainwaves opens up a unique channel of communication between the worlds of art and science. Composers Mira Calix and Anna Meredith worked in collaboration with neuroscientist Professor Vincent Walsh during a Faster Than Sound Residency, creating individual and collaborative pieces for instrumentation and electronics. Visual artists Loop Ph have created an installation environment for the players to perform within a surround sound structure. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the technology's development, the evening is inspired by the sounds and the physical presence of an MRI scanner.

My Secret Heart
Ron Arad's Curtain Call
The Roundhouse, London
PAY WHAT YOU CAN ON THE DAY - THERE'S NO FIXED PRICE
As part of Bloomberg Summer at the Roundhouse, internationally renowned artist, architect and designer, Ron Arad has invited his favourite artists, musicians and friends to create unique work for his 360° interactive installation.
Arad’s constant experimentation with materials and his radical approach to form and structure have put him at the forefront of contemporary design. For Curtain Call, he’s responded to the Roundhouse’s spectacular Main Space by creating a curtain made of 5,600 silicon rods, suspended from an 18 metre diameter ring - a canvas for films, live performance and audience interaction.
My Secret Heart, for which Mira Calix won the British Composers Award in 2009 will be performed on the 26th of August as part of the MLF program. The hour long, surround sound piece with visuals by Flat-E and Memo Akten was commissioned by Streetwise Opera and features a 100 strong Choir. The piece is based on Allegri's 17th century seminal work Misere Mei Deus.
