Kelly Moran's first full length album for Warp is here.
‘Ultraviolet’ is strong statement from Moran, showcasing the dynamic range of her influences and touching on elements of lush electronics, black metal, and jazz – all centred around performance on prepared piano.
The roots of the album emerged from an hours-long improvisation session one afternoon at her home in Long Island, New York, following a day spent hiking, swimming and walking in the woods. Inspired by “the sounds of the wind and the wildlife, and all the echoes surrounding me,” Kelly set out to “make music that feels natural, connected, and effortless”.

REVIEWS OF ‘ULTRAVIOLET’
“An exotically spliced hybrid bloom of a record: thorny but soft, talkative but concise, relentlessly modernist but also welcomingly, dreamily lush”
– LOUD AND QUIET, 9/10
“Ultraviolet is indebted to the charm of the natural world, but with it, Moran unlocks dazzling new ones in the process, keys jammed firmly between the strings of her instrument.”
– EXCLAIM, 9/10
“Ultraviolet is pure flow[...] consonant and warm, with steady rhythms and reassuring harmonies.”
– PITCHFORK, 7.8/10
“It is this process of combining darkness and light that make Ultraviolet such an interesting listen, as Moran attempts and succeeds in surpassing the confined spaces of individual genres and practices to create a more holistic work.”
– POP MATTERS, 9/10
