'The Elephant In The Room: 3 Commissions'

Numbers, ideas, images, strings, fables, people, puppets, myths, realities, building sites, shopping centres: with customary invention and beauty - Mira Calix has now wrestled all of these into 'The Elephant In The Room', her second '3 Commissions' collection due for release late October this year!

Following on from 2004's release of 3 Commissions, this is the second album in the series. It contains extracts from compositions for; 'Elephant and Castle' , an opera commissioned by the acclaimed Aldeburgh festival, 'Dead Wedding' , commissioned by the Manchester International Festival and Opera North, and two movements taken from 'memoryofamoment' a 20-minute piece created for a video installation at Faster Than Sound.

Spread over nine tracks, the music gently swells with an evocative, string-led, neo-classical/avant-garde atmosphere and retreats within the distant resonance of atmospheric field recordings.

Mira Calix is involved in several shows and performaces this year.. below are just a small selection... watch this space for news of others!
