Ross Birchard has been stirring the waters in anticipation of a second album from early in 2014, he spent much of the year on a truly global tour and put out the ‘Chimes’ EP. The traditional Valentine’s mix continued with ‘Slowjams Chapter VIII’ this year and Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons) annouced that Hudson Mohawke was joint producing his new album ‘Hopelessness’ with Oneohtrix Point Never. It is this environment into which ‘Lantern’ was announced.
With news of the album released to the world, Hudson Mohawke performed four shows at SXSW including FADER Fort and The Spotify House. Now, we have three tracks available to listen to, ‘Very First Breath’ (featuring French vocalist and old friend of Hudson, Irfane), ‘Scud Books’ and ‘Ryderz’ – Hudson Mohawke’s sample of ‘Watch Out for the Riders’ by D.J. Rogers. Lots more has been revealed from the album by BBC Radio 1 on Benji B, Mistajam and Annie Mac’s shows and there are also videos for ‘Very First Breath’ and ‘Scud Books’. So plenty to wet the appetite before the album is released in full.
With more to come soon, Hudson Mohawke has spoken to the The Fader and The Guardian, Pigeons and Planes have charted his career so far, and FACT took some photos of the new live show which will be on tour this year.
