Warp Records Warp 5 Days Off Festival Review

5 Days Off Festival Review

On Thursday 15th July, Warp artists travelled to Amsterdam for the 5 Days Off festival at the Melkweg.

The Dutch Vpro site has an excellent review and lots of pictures and audio to check out here

The pages are all in dutch, so below is a Babelfished translation of the night (it kinda gives it the disorientating surreal vibe that nights in the 'Dam often have... )

The Thursday evening stood dominated by the renowned English Warp label. Ever small started in Sheffield, the label has meanwhile developed into of the taste makers for muziekliefhebbers worldwide. With a rich and broad scale to artists she has stood since beginning years ninety guarantors for adventurous music with a fijnzinnig feeling for quality. Lords such as Aphex twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, Boards or Canada, Plaid and Prefuse73 is only some paradepaardjes of the treasure to music which the Warp accommodate family. After the success of the Warp night on 21 February in Paradiso it was time for a continuation. Vanavond it is up to that point: the large room of the galaxy is taken to the hand by an experienced team of padvinders that still in search is of new ways.

Are been the first Warp dj N.E.D, who looks after also intermezzo's between the act. He brings a subtle mix of separate, but for this reason not less tasty, beats. The Warp catalogue even fijntjes doorgespit are mixed and with other one dancing floor aimed material. Warp keep of it to keep the chalk lines in own hands and for this reason have the label also for the visuals its own vj "Flat-E" taken along. He treats our on splendid structured collages of pictures, the perfect supplement on music.

Team Shadetek is the newest acquisition of Warp and stands as a first warming up live-act on the programme. Recently they have their new album "Burnerism" brought out and at present is them busy with a tour promote the album. The dancing floor is still scrupulously empty the moment the team plays its first numbers. Their compare music has been draped in breakbeat and dance dance-hall rhythms. the people who trod a measure the dancing floor chased away.

It is halfly, the room has considerably filled up and it should clear be that there is a public favourite to the turn; Chris Clark stand on the beams. This young person made "Clarence park" in the previous years furore with the albums; and "Empty to the Bones Of You". Its repertoire stands convex of sharply programmed beats and deep sound fields, a winning combination. Music is a cord energy which moves on himself rapidly and several times result in a climax. Public gets where it has come for, a package rammel with policy. As the set progresses, the rawer and freakier become, to large pleasure of public.

Jamie Lidell are an old fixed value of the label and probably the largest publiekstrekker in the Netherlands. With its overwhelming improvisatiekunsten he keeps the room effortless in its seizure and weet he each of raising show to art. The voice is at issue and becomes in already its facets gesampled for further course of the act. Rhythms sputter and bubble and are varied with the warm soulvolle song qualities of Lidell. The perception and the charisma radiate of the man.

The evening is concluded in style with attractive varied setje van Matthew Herbert. Classics, jazz getinte house, sultry beats and stemmingsverhogende techno finish the evening with flair. There can be looked at on a musical surprising evening and Warp have again being proved why it for liefhebbers to the electronic crème the drawer crème belongs.
