Warp Records Mira Calix 'Nothing Is Set In Stone' opening for London 2012 Olympic celebrations

Mira Calix:
'Nothing Is Set In Stone' opening for London 2012 Olympic celebrations

Nothing is Set in Stone is a reactive musical stone sculpture created by Mira Calix. The piece, presented by the Mayor Of London, will stand at Fairlop Waters - a nature reserve and country park in the London Borough of Redbridge. The installation is part of the London 2012 Olympic festival.

Mira Calix has worked with mineralogists from the Natural History Museum to create a new physical experience of music. Though conceived as a continuous piece of music, the music is never heard in its entirety. Different melodic elements react to the audiences approach and movement. Each listener is invited to construct their own version of the song as they explore the large monolithic structure. Uniting both the music and the sculptural form together, the sculpture, with stones in unusually upright positions, and the music, are expressions of one another. Calix's score was performed by members of the University of Johannesburg Choir.

'Nothing Is Set In Stone' will run between 21st June - 9th September 2012 at Fairlop Waters, Forest Road, Barkingside, IG6 3HN. Underground station: Fairlop - Central Line - Hainault Branch

Entrance is free to the public and amenities including parking and hospitality are available on site.
