The Maida Vale Sessions compiles four of Broadcast’s live performances at the famed West London studios between October 1996 and August 2003, charting the band from their first year together to near-international recognition as their sound continued mutating.

Remastered from the original tapes at Calyx in Berlin, this is the first time some of the band’s radio sessions for John Peel and other BBC DJs are being made available. Includes different versions of album tracks, a song they never re-recorded “Forget Every Time” and a rare Nico cover “Sixty Forty”

The debut solo album from Daniel Rossen, a key songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and lead voice of bands Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles.

“I titled the album ‘You Belong There’ because I felt like it summed up the energy of the album well. It reminds me of the pull of chaotic states of mind— of addiction, fatalistic thinking and rumination. It also points towards the questions of place and displacement on the album, and the horror of distance that I felt I was grappling with throughout this period of my life”

To quote frontman Nic Offer “We’ve always been pushing towards something stranger and weirder”. The band’s ninth record, Let it Be Blue, takes that feeling of constant, radical transformation to new, untapped zones.

Featuring production from Patrick Ford, Let it Be Blue is the product of file sharing, trading stems, song particles, little ideas on their way to being fully realized dance tracks. It was conceived during the past two years, with dreams of future dancefloors very much on the brain. The resulting 11 songs are some of the band’s most production-focused offerings to date.

after touching down on warp in 2021, wu-lu dropped his debut album in july – a record born out of fearless self-examination and drawing on a wide array of influences, from dj shadow to hardcore.

on ‘loggerhead’, grunge drawl and punk spirit is peppered with nods to classic hip-hop and skate video soundtracks, cementing a sound that’s swiftly becoming wu-lu’s trademark.

August saw Hudson Mohawke return with his first solo record since 2015.

Trading in his liniage in dark uk back-alleys filled with Glaswegian antipathy for studio sessions with blazed bavarotti-inspired tenors and drink string quartets, 'Cry Sugar' sees hudmo channel an ongoing fascination with melding his and low culture.

“i’ve always been turned off by the notion that if you’re making a “weird dance record” then, by default, it has to be brooding and serious and shocking and deep. that’s a cliche. a lot of the best dance music is party music, and the dance music I love is usually fairly concise and direct.”

Cybele’s Reverie [Live at the Hollywood Bowl]
00:05:47

in september, stereolab delivered the fifth instalment of their rarities compilation series ‘switched on’. ‘pulse of the early brain’ compiles out-of-print records and obscure tracks from limited splits and singles – spanning early beginnings with the 1992 ‘low fi ep’ through to more recent material like bonus tracks from 2008’s ‘chemical chords’.

the triple disc release showcases a variety of musical moods, from noisy drones through playful pop to amorphous acid jazz. highlights include autechre's 1998 remix of ‘refractions in the plastic pulse’, alongside ‘simple headphone mind’ and ‘trippin with the birds’ – two nurse with wound collaborations from 1997.

bibio celebrates a major career milestone on his tenth studio album ‘bib10’ released in october.

exploring new sonic territory, ‘bib10’ once again demonstrates the protean nature of bibio’s songwriting, moving away from the folk-tinged sounds of ‘ribbons’ towards groove-led melodies, silky disco and texture-heavy soul explorations.

“when i finish an album, i crave doing something different for the next one. i think as ten is such a milestone, i wanted this record to be more of a party album. it also has its dreamy and melancholy moments, but there’s a lot of fun and playfulness in this album.”

plaid deployed their latest full-length offering ‘feorm falorx’ in november. themed around a recent live appearance at intergalactic festival feorm on the planet falorx, the album aims to recreate plaid's set back on earth.

generally gentler than the dark angularity of its predecessor ‘polymer’, but no less deep, the record continues to build on plaid’s trademark melodicism. while embracing new methods of synthesis, ‘feorm falorx’ sounds warm, human and nostalgic – a unique brand of high-tech-retro-futurism.
